DPRAC TROPHY

2005 saw a brand new cup to replace the original engraved plaque with a bronze scroll surrounded by laurel leaves, which was first presented in 1992. In recent years this has been awarded to the highest British point’s scorer in the Donington rounds of the TVR Tuscan championship and 2005 the AVO Ginetta Championship. 2006 again sees a new destination for the Cup this year it is going to the top British points scoring driver in the Formula Renault UK Championship. The series was chosen as it is one of the most competitive in the country with excellent grids and a wealth of young British talent, also the championship visits the circuit twice in 2006 with two races at each meeting so there is plenty of oppertunity for the best drivers to show through.

JEREMY METCALFE TAKES DPRAC CUP IN FRONT OF MASSIVE CROWDS AT DONINGTON PARK

After another two thrilling races at Donington Park saw the race to take the DPRAC Cup go down to the wire with a clutch of drivers in with a chance of taking the silverware. Will Bratt points leader after the first visit to Donington of the Formula Renaults fell to 3rd after the first race as race winner Sam Bird's 15 points took him to 2nd and Jeremy Metcalfe's 2nd place took him into the lead. The weekends 2nd Formula Renault race and the final points scoring race for the DPRAC Cup saw Sam Bird follow up his first race win with a second place finish and another 12 points towards the cup. However AKA Lemac driver Metcalfe just did enough with 4th spot and 8 points to take the trophy by a single point from Bird. Will Bratt scored two 7th place finishes over the weekend and finished third whilst other points scorers were Dean Smith (5th & 8th), David Epton a 6th place in race 1, James Sutton and lady racer Pippa Mann both scored a point for a 10th place finish each and Peter Rees scored 2 points for a 9th place in race 1.

Unfortunately due to technical checks etc that were required to be carried out on all the cars it was not possible to present Jeremy with his trophy on the dat, however club committee menber Roger Hodson presented him with the Cup at the BTCC meeting at Brands Hatch in September.

FINAL POINTS STANDINGS FOR THE DPRAC CUP 2006 ARE

After rounds 11 and 12 of the 2006 Formula Renault UK Championship, the first two points scoring rounds of 4 in for the DPRAC Cup, it could not be closer as the young British driver's battle for the silverware.
